Advancing research for the industry
We share most of our findings publicly, and partner with research organisations to expand knowledge on biochar.
While biochar is featured in over 100,000 peer-reviewed publications, knowledge from at-scale in-field experiments is still not sufficiently documented.
We invest significant amounts in research and development across all dimensions of biochar and are committed to share as much as possible of this knowledge.
To guarantee impartiality and to speed up results, we partner with numerous research organisations, and encourage new ones to join us.
Research topics for collaboration
Context-specific optimisation of agronomic impact
Yield effects, soil health indicators, and fertiliser interaction across tropical smallholder systems, with a focus on dose-response curves and long-term performance in weathered soils.
Feedstock-specific properties and downstream implications
How crop residue composition and pyrolysis conditions determine end-product quality — including carbon stability, surface area, and nutrient profile — for our tropical feedstocks.
Biochar-based fertilisers and similar doping
Biochar as a slow-release carrier matrix for nitrogen and phosphorus: nutrient loading protocols, release kinetics, and field comparison with conventional fertiliser inputs.
Biochar as an input for novel materials
Biochar as a functional additive in construction materials, water treatment, and bio-based polymers — focused on material properties and end-use applications.
